Four Weeks to Go

This is the home stretch. I feel ready for this race. I have some concerns about keeping my planned pace (7:45), but I think once I hit the course, the race adrenalin will kick in and I'll have to hold myself back for the 26.2 miles.

This week is my final tough week with several Effort Pace runs and a long run of 2:45:00. Once I'm through that next week is more Effort Pace and the long run is down to an hour and a half. I then move onto my two week taper and then it's race day.

I'm currently working on my race plan for the days leading up to the race and then the race day itself. I keep playing with the idea of trying to qualify for Boston, but my training hasn't been up to that level and there is to great of a possibility of me not even finishing the race.

I've also begun to look ahead to 2012. I think I'll get back into triathlons and race a Half Ironman. During some of my long runs I've found a couple of small lakes that I should be able to swim in. I also want to look into the local YMCA to see about their pool times.

My two issues with my tri training was the swim and getting good bike times. I've read a couple of articles (unable to find them to link them here) about doing more of your bike training on the indoor trainer and less work on the road. This change in my training will allow me to get in my rides early in the morning or later in the evening.

Second, the swim. The gym I was going to was to far away and it was difficult to get to and from and get the kids to daycare and get myself into work. With these open waters that I've found will allow me to do these and be closer to home. Also, if the Y has some good swim times, I'll be able to go there and then get into work on days that my wife is home with the kids.

Still some details to work out and some weight work that I'll need to focus on this weekend, but these are issues to think about on October 3rd. For now, four weeks to go!!!
